The Sweet Spot featuring Chocolates by Leopold in the News

INTRODUCING NEW TWIST ON PB&J
The Sweet Spot develops new recipe based on old-time favorite

Leo Schreiber, Cind Grisafi, Tom FollertMontrose, Susquehanna County, PA – Peanut butter and jelly, fondly referred to PB&J, is a classic flavor combination first published in 1901 by Julia Davis Chandler. A hit with American youth, it has remained a favorite. Today, The Sweet Spot featuring Chocolates by Leopold, has taken this sweet and salty flavor combination to the next level and back to it’s beginning by developing their version of the PB&J. They’ve created a recipe that incorporates the right balance of peanut butter truffle, raspberry jelly and milk chocolate, which is scheduled to be offered to the public in mid to late September.

Tom Follert, Production Manager, told us, “In the early 1900’s, peanut butter, like chocolate in it’s beginning, was a delicacy and only served at upscale affairs and tea rooms and was often combined with pimento, watercress, toast triangles or soda crackers. Because of its neutral flavor, pairing peanut butter with other products became the norm for creative chefs. As peanut butter became easier to obtain, the price decreased and almost everyone had a jar in his or her home. In the 1920’s when bread was first sliced and wrapped, children could make their own sandwiches. With its low cost, high nutrition and ease of assembling, PB&J became one of the top favorites. With our new recipe, we’ve taking an old-time favorite to the next level and back to its beginning when it was an upscale treat. We started working on our recipe last year and after many variations and taste tests, we’re just now releasing a recipe we feel lives up to the history of both peanut butter and chocolate—a gourmet product with a comfortable, old-time flavor.”

“I am happy to say that I’ve been just one of the many taste testers for this new candy confection recipe. I never thought there would be a difference from one to another but I learned differently. Too much peanut butter, too much jelly or not enough chocolate really changed the overall balance of the recipe. When the right balance of ingredients was achieved, I finally understood what goes into making a really good chocolate candy recipe. I’m just hoping that they want to use me on their next candy creation!” Mike Considine, a taste tester told us.
